The Plajur Spring of Murishen

Location

The Plajur Spring is situated in the upper part of Murishen village in the Martuni region (Fig. 1). This village is positioned in the southeast of the Republic of Artsakh, approximately 34 km from the regional center of Martuni and 24 km from the capital, Stepanakert. The village has been under Azerbaijani occupation since September 2023.

Historical overview

The construction inscription for the Plajur spring is located on a single stone, stacked on the left facade of the structure "This stands as a testament to the memory of Khuri Mezhlumeants. Construction commenced in 1892 and was completed by his grandson, Hrand Israel Stepaneants, in 1919 (Fig. 2)."

Architectural-compositional examination

The spring features a rectangular layout, measuring 9 meters in length, 1.8 meters in width, and standing at a height of 3.1 meters. It comprises two arched open halls, forming a single, overall rectangular nave. Constructed from local white shale, the arches and facade are chamfered, while the roof is covered with tin.

The condition before, during, and after the war

The spring is in good condition and was not damaged during military operations in 2020 and 2023. However, there is no information available on its current state.
