The spring of Khachmach village

Location

The spring of Khachmach village is situated within the village of Khachmach, located in the Askeran region, approximately 2 kilometers to the southwest of the village (Fig. 1).

Historical overview

The construction inscription reveals that the spring was established in 1900. It reads: "This spring was built by Mnatsakan Yosepian, and the structure was constructed by his grandson Baba Andonian Mnatsakaniants in 1900." (Fig. 2). The construction inscription is positioned between the arches (Fig. 3). The local population of the village commonly refers to it as the "Tughupva" spring.

Architectural-compositional examination

The spring is constructed using local limestone and lime mortar. It comprises three vaulted sections, each featuring a long stone nave (Figs. 4, 5).

The condition before and after the war

The spring remained undamaged during the 44-day Artsakh war.
