The Church at the “Yeghtsu Glukh” Tract in Hinshen

Location

The monument stands in the "Yeghtsu Glukh" tract, not far from the village of Hinshen in the Shushi district of the Republic of Artsakh.

Historical overview

No historical records about the church have been found, and its original dedication is unknown. Based on its overall appearance and plan, it was likely built in the seventeenth century (Fig. 1).

Architectural-compositional examination

The church has a rectangular ground plan and is a single-nave hall. It is constructed of small- and medium-sized, unworked and semi-worked whitish limestone laid in mortar; only the doorway jambs and the lintel are finely dressed. The sole entrance opens on the south side (Figs. 2–3). The church has two windows, one located in the western façade and the other in the eastern façade. The interior is covered with a barrel vault, and the walls are plastered (Fig. 4).

The Condition Before and After the War

The church did not suffer damage during the Artsakh wars.
