Erasing the Armenian inscriptions and symbols is not a new phenomenon in Azerbaijan's policy of cultural genocide. It dates back to the 1960s, when the Armenian cultural heritage in one hand was proclaimed as Albanian and in another started to destroy that heritage.

The pictures below show the the church and watermill at the Ghaybalushen village near Shushi, the inscriptions of which were erased before 1988.
