The spring of Mets Jur (big water)

Location

The Mets Jur spring is located in the Askeran region's Karmir village (Fig. 1).

Historical overview

The spring was built in 1864, according to the preserved construction inscription. "It was built in May of 1864, and the master received ten coins for his efforts" (Fig. 2).

Architectural-compositional examination

It was constructed of unpolished stone and lime mortar, with the nave and memorial wall made of white polished limestone. The overall length is 12 meters.

The rectangular and long nave is comprised of two connected sections and has a source.

The spring's three inscriptions are about the construction and subsequent renovations."In memory of Aslan Musayelyan, a Karmir villager who repaired this spring in 1914" (Fig. 3), "This spring is dedicated to Musael, Sargis Abgareants' son" (Fig. 4).

The condition before, during, and after the war

The spring was repaired in 2015, and a tin cover was installed.

The military operations in 2020 did not affect the spring.
